Goals You Should Set for Your Marketing Strategy that Aren't Simply “Increased Sales”

Many businesses get stuck in the rut of simply plugging in the words, “increased sales,” into their marketing goals for the year. Of course, that is always the desired result–but, as a goal, it falls short. Goals are most effective when they are SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. Instead of sticking with the generic “increased sales” goal, set one of these SMART goals instead.

Increased Online Traffic

Working toward increased online traffic will get you closer to your end goal of increased sales, but it can also be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. For example, set the goal to double your online traffic within the next six months. You can easily measure your online traffic with a good data analytics program. Google Analytics is perfect for startups because it is effective and free.

Setting your goal is only the first step in a successful marketing campaign. The next step is to outline ways of reaching your goal. You could begin email marketing, improve your search engine optimization (SEO), build a better website, and start a business blog. Business blogs are excellent ways to incorporate high-volume keywords into your website. This will do wonders for your SEO, especially if you frequently update your content and make it compelling to your target audience.

Higher-Quality Experiences

The number of clicks your website gets can only tell you so much about your reader’s experience. What matters most is your conversion rate, or the percentage of visitors who take action. This will happen as you improve the user experience on your website. First, ensure that your website is easy to navigate and user-friendly. Second, publish well-written, informative, and interesting content that will draw the attention of your core audience. Many businesses prefer to outsource their business blog posts to a content creation company that can offer superior work.

Greater Customer Loyalty

Another impactful marketing goal is to increase customer loyalty. As you grow your loyal customer base, you will achieve more consistent business. There are several ways to accomplish this goal. First and foremost, focus on your customer service. Make sure every customer has a positive experience with your company. You can also set up a customer loyalty program, incentivize repeat purchases, engage on social media, ask for referrals, and get to know your customers on a personal level.

A successful marketing campaign is more than simply setting goals. It is about setting SMART goals. As you set effective short-term and long-term goals–and outline specific plans for achieving them–you will have a blueprint to follow toward the end goal: increased sales.
