3 Ways to Better Connect with Your Blog Followers

A business blog is a powerful marketing tool that allows you to interact with your customer base on a more personal level. A blog can also boost your SEO rating, increase traffic to your website, and improve your conversion rates. However, not all business blogs are created equal. The best business blogs truly connect with their followers.

Your followers aren’t machines any more than your business is run by robots. On both sides we find people, and people crave connection. It doesn’t matter that you run a business and your followers are potential customers. You are all people with shared concerns, worries, and fears. Build on that connection in your blog by adding a personal flare to your posts. Try to steer clear of generic, sterile content. Successful rhetoric demands the use of pathos as well as ethos and logos.

Pathos appeals to your readers’ emotions. Try to elicit powerful emotions in your blog posts, such as surprise, empathy, curiosity, and (cautiously) fear.

Ethos is all about establishing your own credibility. Showcase your expertise in your business blog, but stay relatable and honest. This helps your audience trust you.

Logos is how you call upon your readers’ ability to make logical decisions. Offer your readers sound reasons why they need your products or services, along with supporting evidence. People are more logical than we sometimes give them credit for.

Shared Goals

Something else common to the human experience is shared goals. Everyone strives for success, health, and, ultimately, happiness. Shared goals build strong interpersonal connections. Let your readers really feel that you have the same goals, values, and needs that they do. Then, go one step further and convince them that your business can help them reach those shared goals, celebrate their values, and fulfill their needs.

Short-Form Media

A final quality common to all of humanity is a lack of patience for long-windedness! While long-form media has its place in e-books, handbooks, and how-to guides, business blogs are more suited to short-form media content. Short-form media is any written content that is no more than about 1,000 words. Remember what you learned in your 10th grade English class–wordier isn’t always better. You can pack a powerful punch in 1,000 words or less. Plus, your readers won’t lose interest.

Save your transactional content for other areas of your business. Your blog should be all about the relational. Your business blog is the perfect platform for building interpersonal connections and sneaking in some strategic marketing. In your blog, you get to build upon the shared human experience in a powerful way.
